A True Story

by Web

Today I want to share the story, but I could say it is a lesson. It happened before I entered this school. That was the time
we needed to prepare the entrance exam. During that time, I believed everyone studied hard, and made the best of time, and so did I. Everyday, I rode my scooter to school, and after school, I rode to the cram school. In order to save the time I wasted on riding, I gradually rode much fast each time. When I rode, my mother always warned me for thousands times that I shouldn・t ride so fast because it was dangerous to have the car accident.

However, at that time, I thought that my riding skill was quite good, and then I told her I always rode carefully. But, she said one thing that impressed me very much until now. She told me that in Taiwan, even if you ride carefully, it doesn・t mean that you won・t get a car accident, because there are still other careless drivers or riders, who will collide with you. Then, one time, when I rode to the school, bad thing happened. I had a traffic accident with a sedan.
That sedan collided me, and I fell from my scooter. I hurt my knee, and the serious hurt was that I broke my finger. During that time, I was afraid of seeing my finger, and I had no feeling about it. The only thing I could feel was that I needed to have surgeon. It happened in the last day of my junior college.

When I went to the hospital, the nurse told me to take easy, and told my parent when I could have a surgery on my finger. When it was my turn, the nurse, a girl, not a boy, asked me to take off my clothes and put on a gown in front of her. I was quite embarrassed, and I didn・t want to take off, but I couldn・t. In an operation room, the
nurse anesthetizes my left hand. The atmosphere in the room was quite nervous and cold. Maybe the nurse wanted to release the tension. They asked me some questions, and we talked much. Although it seemed that it was a small operation, it took half an hour.

After that, now, I always think the car accident is a small warning to me. I also feel it is fortunate at the car accident, I only broke my little finger. Now, the change is that I don・t ride in the crazy way as I did before. Instead, I ride as slowly as an old man does. Sometimes, I will ride fast when there are not so many cars, but I will slow down when I see the scar on my left little finger. Maybe as the Chinese proverb saying, once bitten, twice shy. Now, when I see
some people ride as what I did before, such as overtaking or crawling riding, I will feel they not only hurt their life, but also threaten other people・s.
